Feathers have had sacred & spiritual meaning going back to antiquity. The Egyptians for example believed that feathers were symbolic of sky gods. Ma’at, the Egyptian goddess of justice, would weigh the hearts of the newly dead in the underworld against the weight of a feather to determine the worthiness of his or her soul. Celtic Druids donned these robes adorned with feathers in ceremonies to invoke the sky gods and gain knowledge of the celestial realm.
But mostly, in the United States, we recognize feathers as an important facet in the cultures of the indigenous peoples of North America. A feather could be a symbol of trust, honor, strength, wisdom, power and courage to the Native Americans.
Because birds inhabit the skies and nest high in the trees, they came to symbolize freedom and spiritual evolution to a higher plane. If you dream of feathers it may point to your desire to travel or have more freedom in your life.
Just as birds are a beautiful species so too their feathers are a beautiful part of the natural order. In giving a feather to a friend or loved one you are giving them a gift from heaven ... wishing for them an uplifting experience on their spiritual journey.
